NSF Engines: Piedmont Triad Regenerative Medicine Engine

ProKidney (NASDAQ: PROK), a key industry partner in the NSF-PTRM Engine, is driving economic development in Winston-Salem with a $22.5 million investment to purchase two adjacent buildings near its headquarters. The 180,000-square-foot facilities will support the company’s manufacturing operations for rilparencel, its cutting-edge regenerative therapy for chronic kidney disease. This expansion is expected to bring 50 new jobs to Winston-Salem in manufacturing, engineering, and quality control roles.

In addition to the 50 positions tied directly to the expansion, ProKidney has reiterated its commitment to creating more than 300 jobs across North Carolina, following its decision to pivot away from another NC facility. The company’s renewed focus on Winston-Salem consolidates its operations and reinforces the Triad’s position as a hub for regenerative medicine and biomanufacturing.

As a keystone company of the NSF-PTRM Engine, ProKidney’s expansion demonstrates how strategic investments in local infrastructure powers economic growth, create jobs, and establishes Winston-Salem as a leader in translation and commercialization of regenerative technologies through expanded biomanufacturing capacity.
